Forest School Sessions

Our parent-toddler/preschool sessions

Join  me for a morning of fun and adventure in our wonderful woodland playgrounds where we get stuck into natural crafts, games, swinging in hammocks and on rope swings, camp fire cooking, singing, free-range play…or maybe just relaxing by the fire!

Parent-toddler/preschool sessions are designed to get children outdoors from an early age.  The environment and Forest School approach enables them to manage their own risk and push the boundaries of their own capabilities which enables them to become confident in this type of environment, build upon their self esteem, and increase their body awareness.

Some weeks I may come with activities some weeks I may not, the aim is to further develop children’s imagination by allowing them to follow their inquisitive nature and think more creatively with what is there.

Sessions are very relaxed and the activities are on offer only should the children want to take part, I firmly believe that children learn what they need to learn through play so they are free to explore the woodland at their own pace.   Some children will just wish to climb and play in the mud, others  will engage more with the activities, what is important is that they are learning at their own pace and guided by their own interests.  A lot of learning in the early years is reinforced by repetition and therefore I encourage a child who wishes to revisit experiences and/or activities over and over.

The Little Explorers Activity Club and Home-Education sessions

Working in partnership with The Little Explorers Activity Club I am offering Forest School sessions for families and home educators, designed to compliment the Little Explorers activity programme.
The Little Explorers Activity Club started out as an Autism friendly home based activity club in 2013 but soon evolved to offer an understanding safe place where families can have fun and socialise with other children and families.  Every Saturday Little Explorers offer a whole range of exciting and unusual activities in conjunction with Forest School sessions offered on Tuesday afternoons.  The ages of the children are roughly from 3 years to 12 years.

In 2016, the founder of the Club, Arabella Carter-Johnson (Autism mother, bestselling author and photographer) joined forces with Rupert Isaacson, author of 'Horse Boy' and founder of https://horseboyworld.com/ and they are working together on the Kids Must Move project.  The Little Explorers will now be the training centre for Europe in the Movement Method.

Our woodland sites

Gumley, Leicestershire, near Foxton, Market Harborough and Kibworth

Our Gumley site is a privately owned mature woodland with stunning views across the open Leicestershire countryside.  This is a small woodland site and is therefore well suited to allowing young children freedom to explore their independence.  A mixture of ancient British trees makes the site perfect for exploring all year round, with conkers and pine cones in the autumn, and beautiful 'fairy' blossoms in the spring.
